Abstract
We propose a novel all-optical multichannel limiter that uses spectrally filtered optical solitons. The periodic nonlinear optical fiber described herein can suppress the interchannel interaction caused by four-wave mixing. By applying this all-optical multichannel limiter to a 40-Gb/s /spl times/ 4-channel wavelength-division-multiplexing signal, minimum received optical powers at the bit-error rate of 10/sup -9/ were improved by more than 2 dB in all channels.
