Abstract :
Design considerations for TEFC and explosion-proof three-phase ac induction motors in Arctic installations are discussed. Emphasized are applications in which ambient temperatures reach as low as -70°F and seismic forces are a factor, as along the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Design technology for extreme low temperature is not new and has evolved from applications other than oil pipeline technology alone.
