Abstract :
The basic requirements of a capacitor starting system for use in reducing voltage flicker during start-up of large induction motors are presented. Flicker calculations, control circuits, switching requirements, overstressing, and flicker reduction are discussed along with test results from several installations on the Houston Lighting and Power Company system.
