Abstract :
There have been a tremendous number of changes in electrical equipment over the past 20 years. Many of the changes have been made possible because of improvement in materials and designs. Unfortunately, not all of the changes have resulted in improved equipment. The reasons for this lack of improvement and/or regression below previous designs are many. First the problem areas are defined and then some suggestions are offered to both the manufacturer and the user that should at least stop the regression and hopefully lead to improvements.
