Abstract :
A simple expression is derived that describes the spreading of the current stream stemming from a point corona electrode situated in a uniform external field. The analysis assumes a uniform current density in the stream, constant mobility, and constant longitudinal field, and solves the equations of continuity and Poisson. Formula accuracy is determined to be about 10 percent by comparison with current density scans taken with a boundary probe.
