Abstract :
Today´s Internet access technologies are not able to provide broadband connectivity to all areas in a cost-effective way for telecom operators. Wired technologies still require a noteworthy investment in cabling infrastructures, whereas wireless access technologies cannot deliver high-speed connections to several users simultaneously. To address this issue, a very interesting solution has been defined by the IEEE 802.16 working group, in particular the IEEE 802.16-2004 and IEEE 802.16e-2005 standards. IEEE 802.16-2004 is a fixed broadband wireless access technology, capable to provide high data rate connections over large areas.
