Abstract
Magnetic gears have the advantages of contact-less torque transmission and inherent overload protection. This paper compares different magnetic gear topologies. It is found that for a given gear ratio, a higher number of poles pairs improves the torque transmission capability. Further, it is seen that a magnetic gear topology with spoke type magnets on the inner rotor and surface mounted magnets on the outer rotor offers high torque transmission capability, with mechanical reliability. In addition, the effect of different geometrical parameters on the performance of magnetic gear is explored. Finite element based simulation results are presented.
