Abstract
The design of an induction motor for pipelines is often controlled by the starting requirements, specifically by the starting current limitations imposed by the electrical utility. Designing the motor to meet across-the-line starting current limits means that full load running performance characteristics are compromised. Alternate starting methods can allow for optimizing the full load performance and result in a reduction of initial and operating costs.
