Abstract :
Malta\´s telecommunications infrastructure is an important source of revenue and employment, and a catalyst for a qualitative change in the nature of the services sector of the economy. Malta\´s future activities are incorporated in its Business Plan for the period up to 1996. Among the major projects included in this plan are a Malta-Italy high-capacity submarine fiber-optic cable; a satellite Standard-A earth station; and a new international telephone exchange that will integrate SS7 as a "platform" for the eventual introduction of advanced services. The latest development in transmission technology (SDH) will also be introduced.<>
