Abstract :
A method for improving parametric amplifier gain bandwidth is introduced and analyzed. It is shown that it is possible to make chromatic dispersion equal to zero in a large index contrast waveguide of LiNbO3 by adjusting the cladding refractive index. Hence, the phase matching for parametric amplification can be achieved over a very large wavelength range. A practical method for the fabrication of the proposed amplifier is introduced. The proposed amplifier can achieve an order of magnitude improvement in gain bandwidth, pumping power, and size.
