Abstract :
Significant energy savings and other benefits have been achieved by using solid electrolyte ceramic materials to measure excess oxygen during combustion in glass furnaces. These savings were achieved by using the continuous oxygen readings in a manual control mode. The system is discussed, including the oxygen sensing assembly, electronic readout equipment, furnace setup, hardware needs, and manual control techniques. An automatic control strategy is presented.
