Abstract :
Transmitter-based equalisation is investigated for enhanced performance in 10 Gbit/s multimode-fibre links. Rigorous statistical modelling confirms, for the first time, the potential superiority of the technique relative to receiver-based schemes. An experimental demonstration of a three-tap transmitter-based equaliser shows benefit in a 500 m link of FDDI-grade fibre
