Abstract :
The increasingly frequent use of ever larger four-pole synchronous motors to drive high speed equipment has focused much attention on the manner in which the rotor is constructed. The type of construction affects the starting characteristics of the motor and may change the way the motor is coordinated with its driven load. Laminated-pole and solid-iron-pole construction are discussed, as they affect the task of achieving overall coordination.
