Abstract
The importance of the repairing of large induction motors by service (repair) centers is discussed. The major consideration is on turnaround time. Because of time constraints caused by emergency turnaround, not enough emphasis is generally put on returning the equipment to original factory specifications. Consideration should be given to the insulation system, mechanical parts such as seals, the bearing system, noise reduction, and possible improvements in efficiency, as well as tests to insure quality. The investment in new equipment as well as the high cost of energy and downtime often warrant a closer examination of the options.
