Abstract :
An overview of capacitor applications is presented, with emphasis on the petroleum and chemical process industries, highlighting factors proven to be important. Subjects such as capacitor bank size and location, design, harmonics, switching, reclosing, and protection are considered. Guidelines are given to assist with the proper selection and design of the capacitor installation, with some examples to illustrate techniques for analysis.
