Abstract :
Information is provided on the conduction of electric currents to and through the earth by an electrode grounding system that will prevent corrosion and still be effective for grounding purposes. The deterioration of underground metallic structures caused by electrolysis (galvanic currents) is discussed. Corrective measures with respect to grounding to reduce corrosion is included. Galvani´s studies of electrochemical action and Faraday´s fundamental laws of electrolysis are discussed. Additionally, some of the common technical terms used in communication between the electrical engineer and the corrosion engineer are defined. The need for this communication cannot be overstated.
