Before arbitrarily selecting a conventional electromechanical motor starter, solid-state energy-saver starters should be evaluated. With the ever-increasing cost of electrical energy, conventional starters, and downtime, solid-state starters are becoming practical and cost effective in the 50-400-hp range.
