Abstract :
Intermodulation distortion (IMD) reduction coding is proposed to improve the error probability performance of nonlinearly distorted orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). In particular, two IMD reduction coding strategies are considered: one requires knowledge of the system nonlinearity, whereas the other does not. Simulation results demonstrate that in the presence of nonlinearities, the error probability of OFDM systems relying on IMD reduction coding is considerably lower than that of OFDM systems relying on peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction coding. Additionally, simulation results also demonstrate that in the presence of nonlinearities the average out-of-band power generated by IMD reduction coding is similar to that generated by PAPR reduction coding.
