Abstract :
This paper will present two methods for improving reliability of delivery of ISO/IEC 13818-1 Transport Stream encapsulated video signal over IP-based networks. After a brief introduction into the problem of reliable real-time delivery of data using IP, major challenges to overcome are identified as packet reordering and packet loss. Both of the methods presented in this paper for improving reliability of real-time video delivery over IP networks focus on the mitigation of the effects of packet reordering and packet loss. Both methods use multiple packet transport routes to carry the signal from sender to receiver, but one method relies on use of RTP protocol and FEC error correction while the other method relies only on the use of information contained within Transport Stream packets.
