Abstract :
IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) is one of the broadband services all operators tend to offer to the customers. Telecom of Kosova (TK), has implemented IPTV platform. This IPTV platform is integrated in NGN (Next Generation Network). In access network, TK has implemented copper cable and ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) technology, whereas in core network has implemented optical network. But, in edge network, there is a mix of technology, in some parts there is optical technology and in some parts there is a SDH (synchronous digital hierarchy) technology STM1 (155 Mbps). The trend toward increasing the number of customers and their requirements for IPTV services, very soon will exceed the Gbps capacities in core network, especially in edge network (backbone network) where we have real bottlenecks. While we have a competition for bandwidth, the video can suffer in aspect of quality. Current solutions divide equally bit rates among all houses and among all video classes. In this case we have such problems like having different video services and one video can require more bit rates than the others. This problem will be even greater in cases where one household requires more than one video simultaneously. This is the reason why we need to develop some intelligent algorithms that are able to share fairly bandwidth between different video channels. In this paper we will analyze the quality of IPTV services for multi IPTV video channels when transmitting through one ADSL line.
