Abstract
In today´s world of rising costs, it is of paramount importance for a utility to design and implement an electrical system that is balanced with efficiency and cost, yet considers tomorrow´s needs. To control the utility´s electrical system for peak efficiency at a minimal cost is exactly why the adaptation of capacitor banks was designed. However, the application of these banks at the desirable time can only be accomplished by selecting a control device which accurately and effectively monitors the electrical system for the application parameters. The selection and use of capacitor controls over widely varied system conditions is discussed, and the criteria used and the technology available in the capacitor control field today are described.
