  • Abstract
Perpendicular recording probe heads using high moment FeAlN/NiFe laminated magnetic materials as poles mere fabricated and tested. FeAlN/NiFe films with a saturation magnetization of 18 kG, a coercivity of 1.0 Oe, and an anisotropy field of 8 Oe, were developed for application in Micro Flexhead components. When tested on CoCrTa/NiFe double layer disks, the high moment heads showed superior overwrite performance and nearly equivalent isolated pulse width compared with typical CoZrNb heads. Vertical domain walls perpendicular to the as-deposited easy-axis of the poles were observed with a scanning magneto-optic photometer and correlated to the read amplitude variations
