  • Abstract
Superconductor critical current density and stability margins are reduced in strong fields, especially in time-varying ones. The possibility of using hyperconductors instead of superconductors in cases was examined. Preliminary evaluations on a hyperconducting central solenoid for a test Tokamak reactor are presented. Specifically, results are given for a hyperconducting and composite (superconducting NbTi+hyperconductor) central solenoid with a 13.5-T field and geometrical dimensions close to those of the ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) central solenoid. The calculation results demonstrate the possibility of using hyperconductors for the ITER central solenoid
