Abstract :
In today´s new and complex cement plants, the use of a computer to assist in maintenance has come of age. As a pioneer in the field of computerized maintenance, Dundee in 1966 developed a simple but effective program which, with only a few changes, is in effect today. It provides the proper accounting, spare parts status, planning and scheduling, and preventive maintenance control to assist maintenance management in getting the most for the dollar. This computer-based program and the steps taken to implement it are briefly described. It may not compare with more sophisticated systems, but it has been successful, with equipment utilization that matches anyone´s, for the fewest manhours per ton, and at a cost per ton that rivals the best anywhere. In short, Dundee has a simple computer-based maintenance system that works.
