Abstract :
A simple and compact optical millimetre-wave (MMW) transmitter has been fabricated by monolithically integrating a modelocked laser diode with an electro-absorption modulator for encoding. A 125 GHz optical MMW signal was generated with high-frequency purity (linewidth<10 Hz). A 10 Gbit/s error-free transmitter operating at 125 GHz was also achieved using the fabricated device.
