Abstract :
Transverse susceptibility measurements have been carried out on a series of hand spread coatings made from a barium ferrite dispersion as a function of milling time. In the initial stages of the dispersion the anisotropy peak was suppressed. This could be attributed to the variation of the internal field in individual barium ferrite particles. As stacking developed in the system during dispersion, the anisotropy peak became more pronounced. The position of the maximum also moved to higher fields consistent with a change in shape anisotropy contribution
