Abstract
This paper presents a procedure for calculation of the characteristics of a digital measurement system using an information theoretic approach. It is concerned with the problem of finding basic parameters of digitization, such as amplitude quantization stepsize and time quantization stepsize, given the accuracy of the measurement. The calculation is based on the use of the method which is called "the method of nested errors." It is shown-that it is possible to distribute optimally the components of the total measurement error (which may be subject to different distribution laws) along the elements of the system and to determine the exact values of these components.
