Abstract :
Post-weld-shift (PWS) during pigtailing of telecommunication laser diodes, such as pump lasers, has been numerically modeled and studied experimentally. The results demonstrate that the PWS can be minimized by properly controlling the laser beam energy delivery. A 3-D finite element model has been developed for effectively predicting the PWS. The results were implemented into the alignment algorithm achieving superior performance figures.
