Application of Solid-State AC Motor Starters in the Pulp and Paper Industry

Solid-state ac motor starters using switched power semiconductors are being used increasingly to replace electromagnetic line starters and reduced voltage starters because of their soft start capability and other advantages. The operation, theory, options, and rating practices of these devices are considered, as well as where and how they are being or can be used in the pulp and paper industry.
