Abstract
A three-pole superconducting wiggler magnet comprising six racetrack NbTi coils kept together by iron yokes has been built and is being tested. The magnet will be installed in a 1.5-GeV electron storage ring at the University of Lund (Sweden) in order to achieve X-rays in the 1-3-Å domain. After 11 quenches the central flux density is 4.4 T, which is about 60% of the design value. The helium evaporation is below 5 l/h. The magnet geometry is based on 3-D field calculation with a specified period length below 240 mm. An adjustment current of the side coils ensures a zero integral over the whole field range. Due to the short available straight section in the storage ring, the total system length, i.e., including the cryostat, is limited to 900 mm
