Abstract :
Power flow and stability analysis showed that a 115-kV transmission line and a 25-Mvar static var system (SVS) would serve a 50-MW load at a compressor station in a remote area of New Mexico. The SVS was sized to provide the reactive power needed for starting 8000-hp motors and for regulating the voltage under plant operation based on the results of the system studies. The installation represents a combination of meeting an industrial consumer´s requirements and minimizing the cost of the electric facilities required.
