Abstract
The reliable performance of connectors is essential to the operation of an electric utility transmission and distribution system. Since 1962, this performance has been measured using a 500-cycle current cycle test for Class A connectors. An accelerated performance test for connectors has been developed which provides similar results in only 50 cycles. Rather than allowing the conductors to cool slowly, they are submerged in a chilled water bath. This current cycle submersion test offers significant savings in both time and energy
