Abstract :
To design tunnel support to withstand rockbursts in deep hardrock mining it is necessary to know the peak velocity of a tunnel sidewall under such severe conditions. A method of measuring peak ground velocity during rockbursts and a general-purpose robust data-logger developed for this purpose is described. Some records of ground movement obtained during rockbursts are given and discussed, and other experiments using the data-logger are also described.
