Abstract :
Using Wireless Optical Communication (WOC) constitutes a promising solution for Body Area Network (BAN). Considering medical applications, this permits decreasing electromagnetic perturbations in the human environment. We investigate on-body communication between a BAN node and the central unit placed on the body. Considering a diffuse optical transmission, we propose an adapted method to determine the WOC performance taking into account room obstacle presence. We evaluate the outage probability assuming node and patient mobility in the environment. The results permit discussing the WOC robustness according the properties of the blocking elements and illustrate the WOC potentialities for mobile BAN scenario.
