Abstract
IEEE 802.11E is standardized to overcome limitations of IEEE 802.11B. 802.11E differentiates among Access Categories (AC), to provide Quality of Service (QoS). In the convention, 802.11E, random waiting time or the backoff number is selected from a contention window; the probability to select any backoff number is same. In the proposed paper, random waiting time is selected such that it follows Binomial Distribution, hence making the probability of selection unique. The performance of the Voice traffic is studied under varying network load and against varying packet size. The scenario is simulated in C taking two of the four different services- Voice services and Best effort services, and the results convey an improvement in network performance in terms of throughput and delay.
