Abstract :
The integration of hitherto separate aspects of traditional manufacturing presents a formidable task in the development of computer integrated manufacturing systems. It is a problem which needs to be approached from many different points of view, and this is reflected by the different backgrounds of the team participating in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute´s CIM Program, which has as one of its aims the creation of a centre of CIM expertise.
