Abstract :
In this paper a simple modulation strategy is briefly described and compared with the traditional popular space vector modulation (SVM) for the operation of 3-phase matrix converter. Both the techniques have been implemented in MATLAB/Simulink environment and input grid side current harmonics with the variation of modulation index, output frequency has been observed. Also investigation of inherent optimum switching state transitions of simple modulation strategy has been compared with the controlled switching in SVM. Comparative analysis of both the modulation strategies in terms of simplicity of implementation with less computational efforts, input grid side harmonic pattern, inherent control advantages has been presented.
