Abstract :
Although parametric programming can achieve significant improvements regarding the productivity of a CAD system, small manufacturing companies seldom make adequate use of this facility. This paper discusses some of the terms in common usage in CAD programming and examines the use of parametric programs. The relative merits and costs of programming are discussed, together with a description of a management approach for developing and implementing parametric programs. The paper concludes with a detailed case study which illustrates the investment required for effective parametric programming and provides a statement of the significant gains in productivity which have been obtained.
