Abstract :
A novel digital relaying technique for parallel transmission lines is presented. Only one relay at each end of the two lines is used. The idea of the protection algorithm is based on the comparison of the average current of corresponding phases. The technique is simple and avoids many problems of parallel lines. Simulation studies show that the trip signal is generated about 5 ms after the inception of the fault. The stability of the relay under different operating conditions is also examined
