Abstract :
Polarisation independent 1×4 and 1×16 phased-array wavelength demultiplexers are demonstrated using 1.1 μm quaternary ridge waveguides. The 1×16 device exhibits an average crosstalk of 14 dB for 2 nm channel spacing and 1.6×1.7 mm2 device size (with output guides), which is the smallest size reported to date. Moreover, zero birefringence is obtained at ~1.53 μm
