Abstract
The equations of electron acceleration, velocity, and displacement in time-varying fields are derived for the temperature-limited and the space-charge-limited diodes. These are written in a form making it possible to construct universal curves of electron displacement as a function of transit angle. Separate curves represent the direct-current and alternating-current components of electron displacement, the total displacement being obtained by adding the two components. The curves greatly expedite the solution of electron transit-time problems and aid in visualizing the physical processes at work.
