If we consider electrical technology to be divided into the two main areas of information processing and energy processing, the pervasiveness of drives technology will be immediately apparent. In developed economies about one-third of all primary energy is converted into electricity, and about twothirds of this electrical energy is subsequently converted in electric motors and drives
