Abstract :
From studies on a digital magnetic recording channel, a signaling scheme that requires a special type of run-length constraint is presented. This signaling scheme produces desirable output waveforms with no read equalization. Furthermore, the uniform envelope of the readback waveform indicates that this scheme may be suitable for use with magnetoresistive read heads. Finally, a special class of run-length limited codes is introduced for use with this signaling scheme. These codes provide density increases with larger-detection windows than conventional run-length codes with equivalent gains.
