Abstract :
The current trend towards even larger and more complex software systems has given rise to the socalled `software crisis¿¿. Producing and maintaining software is consuming more and more resources in terms of both manpower and finance. Improvements in the way software is designed and implemented can reduce costs throughout the life cycle of the software. A computer-based system is described that uses graphical techniques to improve the visibility and structure of the software design, implementation and documentation. Automatic generation of the high-level language code from the graphical documentation ensures agreement between the two
