Abstract
A technique was developed to estimate the centroid of an organ from serial cross sections. This approach is based on double integrals calculated for each section and is applicable even if each section is multiply connected and sections are not parallel. When more than 10 sections were used, the centroids of the computer-generated phantoms could be estimated at an error of less than 4 percent of the radius of the phantom using 6 different cutting modes. This technique should be especially applicable to two-dimensional ultrasound images where non-parallel cross sections are often obtained.
