  • Abstract
    We present a method for determining the bit rate based upon second-order autocorrelation and asynchronous delayed sampling. The technique is simple, cost-effective, and robust to impairments such as amplified spontaneous emission and chromatic dispersion. We demonstrate the technique for nonreturn-to-zero (NRZ), NRZ-differential phase-shift keying, and return-to-zero formats. This approach provides a means for determining the bit rate with an accuracy better than 0.5%.
