Abstract :
One may confidently expect that the accomplishments of wartime technology will find many and useful applications in the arts of peace. Since World War II was pre-eminent among wars in its engineering achievements, it is natural to anticipate that its peacetime contributions may also be outstanding. Readers of the IRE journal will accordingly find much of interest in the following guest editorial-prepared by a scientific executive who is, as well, a Major General in the United States Signal Corps. With the easing of security restrictions the extent and importance of the contributions of science to warfare in radar, communications, and related electronic fields have been disclosed to the public. We can now foresee the early and widespread application of these new techniques to the needs of commerce and industry.
