Abstract
The development of microwave receivers with a low-gain converter as the first stage has made it desirable that the noise level and the conversion gain be determined independently of the following intermediate-frequency amplifier. Often this converter is a crystal with a conversion gain less than one. This paper discusses some of the general procedures that have been used to measure microwave-converter noise levels and conversion gains.
