Abstract :
Ultrawideband (UWB) communication systems can benefit from the spatial selectivity provided by adaptive antenna arrays. This communication presents a new spatio-temporal digital filtering technique for realizing a UWB beamformer. Through the use of an infinite impulse response 2D frequency-planar beam space-time plane wave filter, the complexity of the underlying structure can be made to be extremely simple and implementable in real time. Simulations of a UWB system equipped with this technique, utilizing realistic channel conditions computed using a full-wave electromagnetic solver, are presented in this communication and demonstrate a dramatic improvement in communication system performance in multiuser scenarios.
