Abstract
This paper introduces a new analytical method for locating the maximum power point of solar photovoltaic systems under partial shading. Several already established analytical models are expanded upon in order to derive a series of equations which can accurately simulate a photovoltaic power and/or current curve under uniform and partial shading conditions. The analytical model can subsequently determine the approximate location of all local maxima, so that the global maximum power point can be identified and utilized for improved efficiency. Future directions for this research involve conjunction with a real-time system to determine the global maximum power point of a photovoltaic system more quickly and accurately than currently practiced standards.
